Since acquiring and completing a top to bottom renovation of the hotel in the spring of 2008, we have implemented a wide variety of innovative eco measures that reduce energy, water and waste. We have also found ways to eliminate household toxins and improve the indoor air quality for you our guest. Come stay with us and together we can all Do Well By Doing Good.

Energy Conservation

• Energy efficient lighting, that need ¼ the electricity, has been installed in guest rooms, meeting rooms and outdoor areas.
• Intermittent-use area sensors are utilized in: public restrooms
• Infrared thermostats installed in guest rooms to reduce energy waste and the resulting air pollution.
• Energy Star rated appliances in all guest rooms
• LED exit signs use a fraction of the energy of CFL signage and last for 20 years.

Water Conservation

• Sheet reuse option for multiple nights stays
• Towel reuse option for multiple nights stays
• Water conserving devices are utilized including: low flow faucet aerators
• Low flow faucet aerators, showers and toilets in all guest rooms conserve many thousands of gallons of precious drinking water.

Recycling / Cleaning & Environment

• Entire property is non-smoking
• Reusable food & beverage service used in lieu of disposable service items
• Key Cards made from 100% post-consumer recycled content
• Composting of food from breakfast area
• Green Seal certified cleaning products

Additional Initiatives:

• Motion Sensor lights in exercise room (in addition to public restrooms)
• Timers on exterior lights
• Energy Star rate appliances
• Local produce & dairy is purchased whenever possible to minimize pollution from long distance trucking
• Other foods purchased in bulk whenever possible to reduce packaging waste
• Hotel has earned a top score and certification from CT’s Dept of Env Protection

Environmental Purchasing

• Preference given to purchase of environmentally responsible products
• Preference given to purchase from environmentally responsible service providers

In addition we continue to work on new initiatives and seek out new ideas to better serve our guests and reduce our impact on the environment.
